Ambati Rayudu said that temples of MS Dhoni would be built in Chennai given his performance for India and CSK over the years. On Sunday.
The Super Kings romped to a 5-wicket win over RR and took a step closer to a berth in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 playoffs. With 14 points and a net run rate of +0.528 thanks to wins in 7 out of 13 games, CSK are placed third in the points table.
If CSK somehow do not qualify for the playoffs, Dhoni has already played his last game at the MA Chidambaram Stadium this season. Temples of popular stars, including, Rajinikanth and Kushboo have been built over the years by fans. Rayudu said that Dhoni may also be added to the list keeping in mind the joy he has brought to India and Chennai fans.
“He is the God of Chennai and I am sure, temples of MS Dhoni would be built in the years to come in Chennai,” Rayudu to Star Sports. Apart from 5 IPL titles to his name, Dhoni also won the Champions League T20 twice.
“He is someone who brought India the joy of two World Cups and has brought Chennai joy with a lot of IPL and Champions League titles. He has just been that one guy who shows belief in his players, who has always done it for the team, for the country and for CSK,” Rayudu said.
“He is a legend and someone everybody celebrates in the crowd. They might be thinking that this might be his last game in Chennai,” Rayudu added.
After CSK’s win over the Royals, Dhoni and the Chennai team took a victory lap at the Chepauk, acknowledging the crowd for their support this season. The crowd also showed their admiration towards Dhoni and the Yellow Army for entertaining them.
The Super Kings will next lock horns with Faf du Plessis’ RCB on Saturday, May 18 at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru.
