India’s T20 World Cup selection meeting likely in Ahmedabad on April 30
India’s T20 World Cup squad selection meeting is likely to take place on April 30, Tuesday, with the squad expected to be announced soon.
There is a chance that the squad announcement could happen on May 1. The deadline for the squad is set to be on May 1. Captain Rohit Sharma unlikely to attend the selection meeting on Tuesday as he will be in Mumbai for MI’s home game against Lucknow. It is also likely that the date of announcing the squad may be delayed to May 1.
India skipper Rohit Sharma and Ajit Agarkar had reportedly met after the DC vs MI match. It was reported that Agarkar had made the trip as he would also get a chance to chat up with skipper Rohit and get further clarity before he sits with his colleagues to pick the final team. There are quite a few spots in the side that would be up for discussion. The wicketkeeper spot is one of the big topics of discussion with Rishabh Pant, KL Rahul and Sanju Samson in the mix. All three men have performed well in the ongoing tournament and have made more than 350-plus runs in the campaign.
It was also reported that KL Rahul was ahead of Sanju Samson when it comes to getting the second wicketkeeper’s spot in the side. Reports would also state that five bowlers, who have all but sealed their places are Jasprit Bumrah, Arshdeep Singh, Mohammed Siraj, Ravindra Jadeja and Kuldeep Yadav.
Among the five names mentioned, only Bumrah and Kuldeep have been in great form with the likes of Arshdeep, Siraj and Jadeja looking for consistency in the IPL 2024 campaign. However, there could be a three-way tussle between Avesh Khan, Ravi Bishnoi and DC all-rounder Axar Patel for the extra bowler spot in the side.
The form of Hardik Pandya and the emergence of Dube
Hardik Pandya hasn’t had the best of returns to MI this season. It was said that his indifferent form remains a worry for the national selection panel. Hardik has scored 197 runs in 9 matches, with his highest score being 46.
Shivam Dube, meanwhile, has been in stunning form with the bat, scoring 350 runs in 9 matches for CSK.
