Suryakumar Yadav has completed his injury recovery and joined with the MI squad ahead of their clash against DC in the IPL 2024 campaign.

Suryakumar has been away from the field since the South Africa tour after suffering an ankle injury and it would force him to miss the first part of 2024. The Mumbai batter would then reveal that he had suffered a sports hernia infection and it was actually keeping him away from the field.

Suryakumar had been at the National Cricket Academy and was working on speeding up his recovery and on April 3, he would receive the clean chit to play in the IPL 2024 season. The BCCI and the NCA physios didn’t want to take any chances with the star T20 batter and made sure they were completely pleased before giving him the green light. MI had started to hype up the return of Suryakumar on their social media platforms and have now revealed that he has linked up with the squad on April 5, Friday.

In Suryakumar’s absence, MI have failed to win their first three matches of the IPL 2024 campaign. The squad is currently enjoying a break in Jamnagar ahead of their clash at the Wankhede stadium on April 7.

How important has Suryakumar been for MI?

Suryakumar’s importance has been highlighted for MI, especially last season as they reached the playoffs of the IPL. In 16 matches last season, he scored 603 runs at an average of 43.21 and a strike-rate of 181.14.

Suryakumar’s absence was felt in the first three games as they were unable to complete chases against GT and SRH before the batting order completely crumbled against RR in their latest match in the IPL 2024 season.

The return of the star batter comes at the right time as MI look to turn around their season during a stretch of home games.
