Samajwadi Party MP Shafiqur Rahman Barq today passed away at the age of 94. He was born in 1930. Barq was ill for a long time and was admitted to a hospital in Moradabad.
He was an MP from the Sabhal seat in Uttar Pradesh. When the health condition of Barq (93) deteriorated after prolonged illness, he was admitted to a private hospital in Moradabad, where he breathed his last. Barq, who has been a four-time MLA, was elected MP from Sambhal for the fifth time in 2019.
Who Was Shafiq Ur Rahman Barq?
Shafiqur Rahman Bark was born to Hafiz Abdur Rahman and Hazra Begum in Deepa Sarai of Sambhal in Uttar Pradesh. Barq was close to Mulayam Singh Yadav. Barq was married to Queresha Begum and the couple has a son. Queresha Begum also passed away few years ago. Barq won the Lok Sabha elections for the first time in 1996. Barq had done B.A. from Agra University.
He launched a movement for Babri Masjid in 1986. After which, he was imprisoned in the District Jail of Moradabad under the Maintenance of Internal Security Act. He was a member of the Babri Masjid Action Committee, Haj Committee of India besides being the Chairman and Founder Trusty of BARQ Education and Science Trust.
SP Offers Condolences
Reacting to the tragic news, Samajwadi Party said, “The demise of senior leader of Samajwadi Party and MP, Shafiqur Rahman Barq Saheb, is extremely sad. May his soul rest in peace. May the bereaved family members get the strength to bear this immense sorrow. Heartfelt tribute!”
SP leader Akhilesh Yadav said, “The demise of senior Samajwadi Party leader and several-time MP Mr. Shafiqur Rahman Barq Saheb is extremely sad. May his soul rest in peace. May the bereaved family members get the strength to bear this immense sorrow.”
The SP has already given ticket to Barq from the seat for th 2024 polls and the party will now have to look for his replacement.
