‘In love, didn’t know he was married’: Woman allegedly run over by bureaucrat’s son

“We were completely in love with each other. I did not know earlier that he was married,” said 26-year-old Priya Singh who was allegedly mowed down.

With her boyfriend’s car near a hotel in Thane on December 11. The man she accused is Ashwajit Gaikwad, the son of Anil Gaikwad, Managing Director at the Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation.

According to Gaikwad’s X (formerly Twitter) bio, he is also the president of Bharatiya Janata Party Yuva Morcha (BJYM) in Thane division.

Speaking about the matter to news agency ANI, Priya further said, “When I came to know (that he was married), he told me that they (his wife and him) were not together anymore, they had separated. He said that he wanted to marry me. I was staying with him for a long time.”

“When I went to meet him that night, he was with his wife. I was in shock when I went to talk to him, he got aggressive. We had a fight,” Priya added.

Speaking about her injuries, Priya said, “Three bones in my right leg are broken, it has been operated on. From my left shoulder to my hips I’ve deep injuries. I cannot move my body.”

“Four days ago I went to file an FIR, the day all this happened. But no action was taken. Today, when I posted on the social media, the police have supported me today,” Priya added.

The victim’s lawyer, Darshana Pawar said, “I met Priya in the morning she is stable but the injuries are quite severe. As per the injuries, section 307 of the Indian Penal Code should have been recorded, which has not been recorded.”

“We have been requesting the investigating officers and police officers to take sections 307 and 356 on record. But, to date, they have not taken it. It’s been more than four days. If they don’t proceed, we will have to approach the High Court,” Priya’s lawyer added.

The woman, Priya Singh, posted the incident on her Instagram profile and said she had gone to meet Ashwajit at 4 am on December 11 at a family function after he called her. She noticed that he was “behaving strangely” and asked to talk to him in private.

Priya added that he was accompanied by a friend who started insulting her. Ashwajit started hitting her after she asked him to defend her, she said.

“My boyfriend slapped me, tried to strangle my neck, I tried to push him away. He bit my hand, beat me, pulled my hair and his friend out of nowhere pushed me to the ground,” said Priya Singh on her Instagram.

She added that she ran to his car to get her phone and her bag and that’s when Ashwajit asked his driver to run her over. After running over her legs, they fled away from the site, she further said.

However, Ashwajit has refuted all the allegations made by Priya, according to sources. He also called the entire incident an attempt to “extort money”, they added.
