IndiGo pilot collapses at boarding gate of Nagpur airport, dies

An IndiGo pilot collapsed at a boarding gate in Nagpur airport and died while being taken to hospital. The incident happened shortly before he was to operate a Nagpur-Pune flight (6E135).

According to sources, the pilot was well-rested prior to his flight as mandated by guidelines of the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA).

According to preliminary reports, the pilot died due to “sudden cardiac arrest”, the KIMS-Kingsway Hospital was quoted as saying by news agency Press Trust of India (PTI).

Aejaz Shami, spokesperson of the hospital, told PTI that the emergency team of the hospital gave him CPR, but he did not respond.

The pilot was declared brought dead at the hospital.

“We are saddened at the passing of one of our pilots in Nagpur earlier today. He took unwell at Nagpur airport and was rushed to the hospital where he unfortunately passed away. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family and loved ones,” the statement by the airline read.

However, the flight took off at 1:24 pm after 14 mins of delay from its scheduled departure.
