Trump accuses ‘crooked’ Biden of pressuring Justice Dept to create ‘fake indictment’ in classified docs case
Former President Donald Trump accused President Joe Biden of pressuring the Justice Department to bring forth a “fake indictment” against him regarding his handling of classified materials.
Trump made the claims in a video posted on Truth Social, alleging that Biden is using the indictment as a distraction. “Crooked Joe Biden pressed deranged Jack Smith to do this fake indictment on me,” he said. Trump pleaded not guilty to 37 counts related to the alleged mishandling of classified documents.
The unsealed indictment accused him of retaining national defense information improperly, sharing it with individuals who did not have proper security clearances, and impeding the government’s document recovery efforts.
Trump and his Republican allies have repeatedly criticised the Justice Department and the Biden administration, accusing them of targeting the former president to undermine his 2024 campaign.
“This is called election interference in yet another attempt to rig and steal a presidential election. It’s a political persecution like something straight out of a fascist or communist nation,” news website The Hill quoted Trump as saying.
He labeled Biden as the most corrupt president in the history of the United States. “This day will go down in infamy and Joe Biden will forever be remembered as the most corrupt president in the history of our country,” he added.
However, Biden and his aides have emphasised in recent days that they have had no contact with special counsel Jack Smith or Attorney General Merrick Garland in the case.
Biden stated that he never suggested to the Justice Department what actions they should take in bringing charges and claimed honesty in his approach to governance.
“You’ll notice I have never once, not one single time, suggested to the Justice Department what they should do or not do, relative to bringing a charge or not bringing a charge. I’m honest,” Biden had said last week.
