IPL 2023: Hope MS Dhoni announces retirement in advance so he can get farewell tour, says Scott Styris
Former New Zealand cricketer Scott Styris has said that he hopes whenever Chennai Super Kings captain MS Dhoni announces his retirement decision in advance so that he can get a farewell tour around the country.
Syris’ comments came after Dhoni received a rousing reception at Eden Gardens during CSK’s match against Kolkata Knight Riders.
Speaking to JioCinema, Styris said he hopes that when Dhoni decides to retire, he should announce his decision in advance so that he can have a farewell tour around India. Dhoni led CSK to a 49-run win over KKR in Kolkata to go top of the IPL 2023 points table.
“I think he wouldn’t be playing now if he wasn’t in love of being in the dressing room. I hope that whenever he decides to hang up the bat, whether it’s now, or next season or many seasons later, that he announces it, because he deserves a farewell tour around the country,” said Styris.
He went on to say that Dhoni has been a great servant of Indian cricket and the IPL, while adding that his contributions have been immense for both Indian and international cricket. Dhoni has played 241 games in the IPL while leading CSK to four titles.
“He has been a great servant of Indian cricket and the IPL. This will give everyone a chance to show their appreciation to Dhoni for his contributions not just for Indian cricket but for world cricket as well,” Styris added.
Dhoni started the 2023 IPL season well, guiding CSK to five wins in their opening seven matches and is currently sitting atop the IPL 2023 points table. The support for Dhoni transcends IPL rivalry, which was up for display during their match against KKR in Kolkata, with most of the stadium clad in yellow.
This overwhelming support even prompted CSK opening batter Devon Conway to say that with Dhoni in their side, every match feels like a home fixture.
“The culture we have here in Chennai us very special and for us it’s about continuing this momentum. Certainly, having MS makes us feel like every game is like a home fixture,” said Conway after CSK’s win in Kolkata.
