Australia’s star all-rounder Glenn Maxwell suffered an injury scare in his comeback game ahead of the ODI series against India as he was forced off the field while playing for Victoria in Melbourne.

Maxwell attempted to take a catch at first slip, but the ball took the outside edge and flew towards him. However, the ball happened to bounce right in front of the all-rounder, and he was struck on the wrist as the ball passed.

Maxwell was evaluated by team medical staff but was not allowed to bat as Victoria began its second innings at the Junction Oval. Scan results revealed no fracture, and a Cricket Victoria spokesman confirmed this. However, a decision on whether he can bat in the second innings has yet to be made.

Maxwell’s first red-ball match in four years will take place at Junction Oval in the Sheffield Shield. In his first innings back from injury, he was out for five runs after being caught lbw. He previously scored a fifty in the Victorian Premier League to demonstrate his fitness for the Sheffield Shield match.

Meanwhile, Maxwell made a forgettable return to the Sheffield Shield earlier in the game. The hard-hitting middle-order batsman, who was playing in the tournament for the first time since October 2019, managed only 5 runs in the first innings.

Glenn Maxwell was making his return to action after missing the entire Big Bash League season due to a broken leg. He hopes to return to international cricket next month when Australia plays India in a three-match One-Day International series. Australia has yet to name its squad for the series.
