Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy delivered a message at the 2023 Golden Globes. He was introduced by Sean Penn, an American actor known for ‘Milk’ and ‘Mystic River’.
Zelenskyy said that the war was not over yet, ‘but the tide is turning’. He thanked those who support the freedom of Ukraine, saying ‘our common struggle for freedom, democracy, for the right to live, for the right to love’ is unifying.
In his special message, he said, “It is now 2023 and the war in Ukraine is not over yet, but the tide is turning. But time is running and it is already clear who will win. There were still battles and tears but I can definitely tell who were the best people..free people of the free world.
Those who united around the support of free Ukranian people in our common struggle, freedom and democracy. No matter who you are and where you are from.”
He referenced the first two world wars and said “there will not be a trilogy.” He said that when Ukraine is victorious in the war, he hopes that all people in the free world will be celebratory on that victorious day.
“There will be no third World War,it is not a trilogy. Ukraine will stop Russian aggression on our land. And I hope all of us will be together on the day of our victory,” he said in a video message. The audience cheered when President Zelenskyy announced his projected victory.
Previously, Penn gave the Ukrainian president one of his Oscars in a show of solidarity after Russia attacked Ukraine.
The Golden Globes returned to the air Tuesday with a red carpet flush with celebrities, comedian Jerrod Carmichael as a hesitant emcee and numerous trophies for “Everything Everywhere All at Once” and “Abbott Elementary,” as the beleaguered award show sought to rekindle its pre-pandemic and pre-scandal glamour.
