Cold wave grips Himachal Pradesh, roads closed after snowfall

As northern India reels under a cold wave, the temperature has significantly dropped in Himachal Pradesh, hovering at the freezing point.

Many roads were blocked in the state following snowfall in higher reaches. Himachal Pradesh is reeling under cold wave conditions with temperatures coming down to the freezing point in several parts of the state. Nearly 92 roads were blocked due to heavy snowfall in higher reaches of the state, and Lahaul and Spiti over the past few days.

People have mostly locked themselves up in their houses due to cold waves and icy winds sweeping across the region.

As per the reports, the high-altitude tribal areas and mountain passes shivered under sub-zero temperatures with mercury staying 12 to 15 notches below the freezing point and Keylong and Kusumseri.

MERCURY DIPS IN HIMACHAL
The minimum temperature reached 5 degrees Celsius in Shimla, which is expected to reach 4 degrees in the next two days. In Manali, the temperature dipped to the freezing point on Monday.

The minimum temperature is expected to hover at minus 2 degrees Celsius on Monday as well and likely to dip to minus 1 degrees Celsius in the next two days.

Meanwhile, in the Spiti valley, the temperature is likely to dip to minus 11 degrees on Tuesday.

The MeT office has issued an advisory urging farmers to keep livestock indoors due to the low temperatures, and make adequate arrangements for keeping them warm.

The temperature is expected to fall further, it said.
