At least five people were killed, while 18 sustained injures after gunman opened fire inside a gay nightclub in Colorado Springs in the US on Sunday.

Multiple people have sustained injuries in the firing, the Mirror reported. Visuals showed huge police deployment and ambulances lining the streets outside Club Q, the nightclub where the shooting took place.

The attack came on the Transgender Day of Remembrance or TDOR, which is observed annually on November 20 to memorialise anyone murdered as a result of transphobia.

Unconfirmed US media reports suggested that at least 10 people were shot at using a sniper rifle by the gunman, who is still active. However, details about the gunman and his motive behind the attack still remain unclear.

Addressing a press conference, Club Q, Colorado Springs police Lieutenant Pamela Castro said that one suspect was taken into custody and was being treated for injuries after the attack.

The attackers did not give any information on the motive behind the attack and even declined to say what kind of firearm was used in the shooting.
