The highly awaited $8 monthly charge for verified accounts on Twitter rolled out today. However, the feature is only available on iOS in a few countries for now.

The latest update on the Apple App Store for the social media site says that the “blue checkmark” will allow users to have verified accounts “just like the celebrities, companies, and politicians you already follow”.

The blue tick verification is currently only available in the US, UK, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, and Canada.

“Starting today, we’re adding great new features to Twitter Blue, and have more on the way soon,” the update message on the App Store read.

It further stated that since blue tick users are going to pay the monthly fee and in return help Twitter “in the battle against the bots”, the microblogging site is going “reward them with half the ads and make them twice as relevant”.

Last week, Musk had announced the new blue tick feature, following which the Tesla CEO had received massive backlash. He hit back at them later, saying they can keep complaining but the monthly charge for verified accounts will remain $8.

Musk said that the new feature will allow users to enjoy “priority in replies, mentions and search, ability to post long video and audio, and half as many ads”. They would also have the ability to bypass paywalls for “publishers willing to work with us,” he added.
