IMD predicts heavy rainfall in Odisha, Gujarat, Bengal; Yellow alert issued in 5 Uttarakhand districts
The fury of incessant rains has once again brought mayhem in many parts of Uttarakhand, including Pithoragarh and Dehradun districts.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow alert for the next four days in five districts as the monsoon has once again gained momentum in the area.
A woman died after a cloudburst in Nepal’s Chhapli area on Saturday caused havoc in Khotila area of Uttarakhand’s Dharchula. The Kali river of Dharchula in Pithoragarh was in spate after the cloudburst.
Heavy rains also wreaked havoc in Khari Gali and Malla Bazar in Eldhara of Dharchula, where many houses were destroyed.
Uttarkashi’s Gangotri and Yamunotri and Uttarakhand’s capital Dehradun continue to receive heavy rainfall. While Yamunotri National Highway is closed near Dabarkot due to heavy rainfall, Gangotri Highway is closed near Helgu Gad.
WEATHER CLEAR AROUND KEDARNATH
The weather is clear right now in Kedarnath, including Rudraprayag, with devotees on their way to visit the holy temple.
The power system has also come to a standstill due to heavy rains in Kapkot of Bageshwar. Also, there are reports of debris on many roads.
HEAVY RAIN FORECAST IN ODISHA, WEST BENGAL
According to the IMD, a low pressure area over the west -central and adjoining north-west Bay of Bengal off north Andhra Pradesh-south Odisha coast has become well marked and is set to turn into a depression by Sunday morning.
In its bulletin on Saturday afternoon, the weather department said that the low pressure will turn into a depression over north-west and adjoining west-central Bay of Bengal off the south Odisha – north Andhra Pradesh coasts.
Due to this, Odisha and West Bengal are expected to receive heavy rainfall till September 14.
IMD ISSUES ALERT FOR ANDHRA PRADESH, TELANGANA
The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) issued an alert for September 11, for very heavy rainfall at isolated places in coastal Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Yanam, and Odisha.
The IMD, in a statement, said that states like Gujarat and Maharashtra are likely to receive heavy to very heavy rainfall during the next five days, adding that states including West Bengal, Odisha, Telangana and Andhra Pradesh are likely to receive heavy rainfall during the next three days.
HEAVY RAINFALL OVER TAMIL NADU, PUDUCHERRY AND KARAIKAL
Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Karaikal may witness isolated heavy rainfall and thunderstorms on September 11. States like Kerala and Karnataka may witness heavy rainfall on September 12.
The IMD also predicted extremely heavy rainfall over Gujarat on September 13.
