The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), on Wednesday, July 6, named a full-fledged squad for the ODI series against the West Indies.

Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli have been rested and the Men in Blue have named Shikhar Dhawan as the skipper of the 50-over games.

Kohli and Rohit are set to take part in India’s upcoming ODI and T20I series against England. The series is set to get underway on Thursday, July 7th. The Indian duo didn’t take part in India’s recent T20Is against Andrew Balbirnie’s Ireland, which they lost 0-2.

The three ODIs will take place on Friday, July 22 to Sunday, July 24 at the Queen’s Park Oval in Port of Spain, Trinidad.

Both Kohli and Rohit have struggled for form of late. Rohit was also tested positive for Covid-19 because of which he has missed international cricket. He has also faced injury concerns over the last few months.

The fans, in the meantime, reckoned that there was no need to give Kohli and Rohit a rest from the ODI series in the Caribbean.

Fans felt that being the full-time skipper of the Indian team across formats, Rohit couldn’t afford to miss a lot of matches. The Nagpur-born Rohit recently missed the rescheduled fifth Test against England at Edgbaston in Birmingham.

One of the fans asked why Rohit can’t play two back-to-back series in international cricket after playing 14 games in a row in the 2022 Indian Premier League (IPL), which took place in April and May.
