The Karnataka High Court granted interim bail to BJP MLC CT Ravi, who was arrested for abusing Karnataka minister Laxmi Hebbalkar.

In its order, the High Court said that a doctor in Belgaum had recommended a CT scan for the BJP leader to rule out any complication following his head injury.

“The petitioner has submitted that the Speaker of Council said no such wordings (Ravi abusing Hebbalkar) were uttered. Even if the alleged incident occurred, which is unfortunate, the police was not required to manhandle the petitioner,” the court observed during the hearing.

Saying that the police could have followed proper procedure, the court accepted Ravi’s petition. “The Petitioner is a sitting MLC of the Opposition party. Him absconding does not arise as he is a public representative,” the court stated.

The order will be hand-delivered to the investigating officer shortly, straying from the norm of uploading on the website. Ravi will be let off by the police once the order copy reaches them.

Meanwhile, the Special Court for People’s Representatives reserved its order in Ravi’s interim bail petition for tomorrow. However, irrespective of what the Special Court’s ruling would be, the High Court’s order granting bail to Ravi will supersede all else.

Ravi, meanwhile, claimed the Karnataka government was trying to kill him. According to the various statements made by Ravi and Karnataka BJP, after his dramatic arrest from the Suvarna Vidhana Soudha in Belagavi, he was first taken to the Khanapur police station and after a while, moved to Ram Durga police station.

He also said that he was made to roam around the state across districts the whole of Thursday night. He was taken to a resort to freshen up only in the morning, and then taken to a hospital for mandatory check-up around 10 am.

He was produced before the court of Judicial Magistrate of First Class in Belagavi, following which he was taken to Bengaluru.
