On Day 2 of the second Test between West Indies and Bangladesh, fast bowler Jayden Seales delivered a remarkable performance, taking four wickets.
And conceding just five runs in nearly 16 overs, giving the West Indies the upper hand. Seales bowled with precision and control, including 10 maiden overs, as he played a key role in cleaning up the tail end of the Bangladesh batting lineup. As a result, Bangladesh was bowled out for a total of 164 in 71.5 overs in their first innings.
In response, the West Indies trailed by 94 runs at the close of Day 2, having reached 70-1 by stumps. Captain Kraigg Brathwaite remained unbeaten on 33, while Keacy Carty was on 19. Bangladesh’s sole breakthrough came when Mikyle Louis was dismissed for a duck, caught behind off the bowling of Nahid Rana, who finished with figures of 1-28.
Earlier in the day, Bangladesh resumed their innings on 69-2 at Sabina Park. The opening day had been curtailed due to a wet outfield and poor light, with only 30 overs bowled. Day 2 also saw an early end, as the umpires called off play due to bad light after a total of nearly 80 overs were bowled.
During the morning session, Bangladesh managed to add just 53 runs off 28 overs, losing four wickets in the process. Shamar Joseph (3-49) claimed the important wicket of Shahadat Hossain, who had contributed 22 runs in a 73-run partnership for the third wicket with Shadman Islam, who was top scorer for Bangladesh with 64 runs, including five fours and a six.
Before lunch, three more wickets fell, including Litton Das (1), who was caught off Seales’ bowling, and Jaker Ali (1), leaving Bangladesh struggling at 98-6. Bangladesh’s captain, Mehidy Hasan Miraz, fought back with a resilient 36 off 75 balls, while Taijul Islam contributed 16 runs from 66 balls, adding 41 runs for the seventh wicket.
In the afternoon session, Bangladesh were dismissed for 164, and the West Indies reached tea at 16-0 after a cautious 10 overs.
