A five-year-old girl is battling for her life in Madhya Pradesh’s Gwalior after being subjected to a gruesome physical assault, including rape.
The girl has been admitted to a hospital with multiple wounds over her body and injuries to her private parts. A 17-year-old boy, who lives in the girl’s neighbourhood of the girl, has been taken into custody for the crime, with the girl’s parents demanding he be tried as an adult. According to the police, the boy allegedly took the girl from her home to a nearby abandoned building where her sexually assaulted her.
According to police, the accused, after the rape, the boy also tried to kill the girl by banging her head against the ground repeatedly, causing major injuries to her head. The girl is now battling for her life at a hospital in Gwalior.
The girl was hospitalised with wounds all over her body, and severe damage to her private parts, according to doctors. She underwent major surgery, requiring 28 stitches to her genitals. Reports suggest that the accused was allegedly in an inebriated state, and took the girl from the rooftop of her house to a nearby abandoned building on February 22.
The boy sexually assaulted her there and inflicted the injuries, leaving her unconscious. After regaining consciousness, she narrated the ordeal to her parents, leading to the complaint and police action.
The incident sparked widespread outrage, with demands for strict action. Union Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia, who is from Gwalior, condemned the incident and contacted the district administration and police, directing them to ensure justice.
“There is no place for such crimes in our region and state. I took immediate cognisance of the incident and spoke to the district administration and Shivpuri Superintendent of Police and directed them to take strict action against such dreaded criminals so that such incidents do not recur in future,” he tweeted.
The family of the girl urged that the accused be treated as an adult and face the maximum punishment of the death penalty.
