2 passenger planes come into contact at Tokyo’s Haneda Airport, runway closed

A runway at Tokyo’s Haneda Airport was shut for operations after two planes came into contact on a taxiway, Japan’s transport ministry said, adding that no injuries or damage was reported.

The incident occurred around 11 am on Saturday (local time), and involved commercial planes operated by Thai Airways and Taiwan’s Eva Airways, as per the ministry and Tokyo Fire Department.

Of the four runways at Haneda, Runway A was closed for operations following the mishap.

In footage broadcast by NHK, the two planes on the runway stopped as fire department officials and other staff gathered at the taxiway. Reports suggest that unidentified debris could also be seen on the ground near the planes.

Local media also reported a delay in flight operations at Tokyo airport.
