After making a head-turning Met Gala debut in a dreamy white pearl-embellished gown by Prabal Gurung, Alia Bhatt took to Instagram to share the inspiration behind her exquisite outfit.
Of course, it was in honour of Karl Lagerfeld, the fashion legend on whom Met Gala 2023 was themed. The actress, however, also revealed the India connect to her billowing bridal gown that was created using 1 lakh pearls.
“I have always been fascinated by the iconic Chanel brides. Season after season, the genius of Karl Lagerfeld shone through in the most innovative and awe-inspiring couture. My look tonight was inspired from this and in particular by supermodel Claudia Schiffer’s 1992 Chanel bridal look,” she wrote on Instagram while sharing an impeccable set of pictures from the event.
“I wanted to do something that felt authentic (hello, pearls!) and proudly made in India. The embroidery, made with 1,00,000 pearls, is a labour of love by Prabal Gurung. I’m so proud to wear you for my first Met,” she added.
Talking about her love for pearls and the little details that completed her look (we’re talking that cutesy hair accessory accentuating her half-tie hairdo), Alia wrote: “A girl can never have too many pearlsâ€æ and the right accessories to complement the look which in our case translated to the bow of pearls on my hair.”
Wait, wait. There’s more. Alia also referred to her own pet cat Edward and designer Karl Lagerfeld’s famous pet cat Choupette in the caption, while adding that the white colour of her outfit was for her own “Choup-ED.”
“Oh, and it’s white, for my Choup-ED,” she wrote. Sweet, isn’t it?
