She was well known for her prompt replies on Twitter when anyone asked for her help.
Remembering one such incident, it was during the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2018 when her tweet on Afghanistan leg-spinner Rashid Khan had gone viral.
It was when Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) were taking on Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in an all-or-nothing fixture at Eden Gardens.
It was Khan’s all-round abilities that took SRH into the finals. The then 19-year-old - who was still a rising star - scored a quickfire 34 off just 10 deliveries, and even delivered a match-winning spell of 3/19 to help his team win by 14 runs.
His heroics not only grabbed everyone's attention but also led to fans calling for him to be granted Indian citizenship.
His name was the top Twitter trend across India with over 30,000 tweets on his performance.
Acknowledging the demand, Swaraj responded in which she clarified that the matter of citizenship rested with the Ministry of Home Affairs.
“@rashidkhan_19 – I have seen all the tweets. Citizenship matters are dealt with by Ministry of Home Affairs”, she tweeted.
However, the conversation got even more interesting when Afghanistan President Ashraf Ghani, made it clear that they weren’t going to let the cricketing star go.
Swaraj had earlier also appreciated Afghan’s entry into the cricket world. In 2017, after Afghanistan achieved Test status, Swaraj had praised them.
“The fact that Afghanistan attained the status of a Test-playing cricketing nation is a testament to the indomitable spirit of the people of Afghanistan to not let the forces of death and destruction prevail,” she was quoted as saying by PTI.
