Omar Abdullah: Poor Modiji has to settle for Vivek Oberoi. Manmohan Singh got Anupam Kher

Jan 09, 2019

Former Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir and National Conference vice-president Omar Abdullah took a jibe at the casting of PM Narendra Modi, a biopic of the incumbent prime minister. Directed by Omung Kumar, the film will feature Vivek Anand Oberoi as Narendra Modi. The poster was launched on Monday with great fanfare by Chief Minister of Maharashtra Devendra Fadnavis.

Abdullah also referenced another political drama, Vijay Ratnakar Gutte's The Accidental Prime Minister, which is currently in the pipeline. The film, based on Sanjaya Baru's book of the same name, is based on the journey of former prime minister Dr Manmohan Singh. Anupam Kher will be seen in the eponymous role.

"Life is unfair. Dr Manmohan Singh got someone of the calibre of Anupam Kher. Poor Modi ji has to settle for Vivek Oberoi. Salman Khan hota toh kya maza aata," Abdullah wrote on his Twitter account.

Fans hit out at Abdullah, saying that if ever a film was made on his life, Kamaal R Khan, Tusshar Kapoor or Rajpal Yadav would be the apt choice to play him on the big screen.

Earlier, soon after the release of the trailer of The Accidental Prime Minister, Abdullah had taken a hardly-veiled dig at Modi. "Can't wait for when they make The Insensitive Prime Minister. So much worse than being the accidental one," he had tweeted.

The Accidental Prime Minister is slated to open in theatres this Friday (January 11). Meanwhile, PM Narendra Modi will go on floors soon and will hit the screens sometime this year.
