Following the information, security personnel launched a search operation in the Khudpora area of Shopian, police officials said. He said the search operation turned into an encounter as militants opened fire.
The latest development comes just days after two militants were killed in an encounter with security forces in Budgam district Thursday. One soldier was also injured in the incident. The slain militants were identified as Mukhtar Ahmad Khan, a resident of Arizal in Budgam and Mohammad Amin Mir of Pampore in Pulwama district.
On October 30, two militants, including the nephew of Jaish-e-Mohammad chief, were killed by security forces following a day-long encounter at Tral in south Kashmir’s Pulwama district. Usman Haidar, the nephew of JeM chief Maulana Masood Azhar, was a wanted sniper and is believed to have been behind the spate of attacks on security forces.
The valley has been on the edge after the killings of BJP state functionary Anil Parihar and his elder brother by suspected militants earlier this week. A curfew was imposed in Kisthwar after violent clashes broke out in the are, however, the situation has been under control.
