'Rocket Man' K. Sivan to take over as new ISRO chief tomorrow

Government appoints eminent scientist K Sivan as new Chairman of Indian Space Research Organisation; set to take charge on Friday replacing present chairman A. S. Kiran Kumar.

Senior space scientist Dr K.Sivan has been appointed the new chairman of the Indian Space Research Organization ISRO.

The Appointments Committee of the Union Cabinet on Tuesday gave the approval for his elevation. Dr Sivan is currently the Director of the Vikram Sarabhai Space Centre, Thiruvananthapuram, an arm of the national space agency ISRO.

Known as the Rocket Man, Dr. Sivan will be at the helm of affairs of the ISRO, one of the world's most renowned space agencies, for three years since assuming his charge.

He will take over from Dr AS Kiran Kumar, the present chairman, after the PSLV Launch on Friday.

Under his stewardship, the ISRO will be launching several prestigious scientific missions like Chandrayaan-2 and other utility based space missions.
